Webtv is the system!

Webtv Box

I am a webtv user and I like it very much. I have a Sony Webtv Plus system. Webtv is nothing like a computer. This is somethings you can do with a webtv system.

Adding Graphics and Sound

There are a number of ways to add graphics and music to your WebTV Web site, from capturing them off the internet to creating them yourself. This section is intended to expand your explanations to WebTV-related services.

Capturing images and sound off the Web

Before you capture anyone's original work off the Internet, make sure you have permission of the artist. Once you've got permission, note that there is a right way and a wrong way to capture images and sound.

The right way is to use the Transloader. The Transloader moves files from the Internet into a folder on your Web site. It's important to note that this service only works for files that are published online and have a URL. It will not work for images or sound attachments in your email.
Follow this link to the Transloader:

Creating your own graphics

You can use Pixelsight's graphics editor to create your own unique images.

Layout Tips

Scrolling WebTV screen can be scrolled only up and down (vertically), not left and right (horizontally). So 544 pixels widthwise is an important limit to remember. The 378 pixels lenghtwise is not a problem because the viewer can scroll down to see the rest of the page. However keep in mind that most WebTV users are not familiar with mouse operation. They are used to remote control. So scrolling should be minimized if possible.

Margins
You probably want to reserve clear areas along the edges for margins. I recommend that you make sure your layout can be shrunk to fit a width of 500 pixels. Centering your page in the browser window does not cause any problem on WebTV screen.

Tables
If you decide to place your page content in a fixed-width table, then make sure that the table width is shorter than 544 pixels. I recommend 500 pixels. If you don't use fixed-width table, then specifiy the table width by percentage. It will automatically shrink to appropriate width by perdentage when shown on webTV screen.

Images
Images are scaled. So tiny text on images could be scaled down to unreadable size. Since large images are scaled down to fit the screen while text is wraped, WebTV viewers may see your layout awkwardly and completely different from that on brower window. So think hard and pre-arrange your layout for WebTV.
